It is very important for all diabetics to have information on foot care such that they can recognise problems at an early stage.
The commonest foot problems in diabetics are:
- Loss of protective sensation in the foot.
- Foot ulcers over pressure points.
- Diabetic Charcot neuroarthropathy leading to deformities of the foot structure.
In general all diabetics should be educated about foot care. Fortunately, surgery is rarely necessary, but our surgeons work in close association with diabetic specialist physicians and podiatrists. Any patient who requires further input can therefore be seen and dealt with appropriately.
